On March 30, 2016, the Food and Drug Administration altered its guidelines for using the drug Mifeprex (also known as mifepristone or RU-486) for an abortion.
Previous guidelines called for the drug to be used in the first 49 days of pregnancy, that women should take three trips to the abortion provider and 3 tablets of 200 mgs of Mifeprex be used. The new guidelines extend the time the drug can be used to 70 days, reduce the number of visits to the abortion provider to two and the number of 200 mg tablets of Mifreprex to one.
The FDA’s previous web page on Mifeprex also mentioned how several women had died from sepsis caused by the bacteria Clostridium sordellii after undergoing chemical abortions. The updated web page no longer has this information on it.
The new guidelines also allow for non-physicians (such as physician assistants, nurse practitioners and midwives) to provide chemical abortions as being a physician is not one of their guidelines.
For years, abortion providers have been doing chemical abortions and ignoring the FDA guidelines. In response to these abortionists, some states passed legislation requiring abortionists to follow the FDA guidelines and now the FDA has altered their guidelines to match how abortionists have been using Mifeprex.
According to the FDA's 2011 adverse events report, at least 14 women have died after taking the chemical abortion drugs.

David LaGrand was “emphatically pro-life.” Now he opposes legislation to prevent women from being coerced into abortion
HB 4787 is commonsense legislation which will make it illegal to coerce a woman into an abortion against her will. This is a legislation both prolifers and those in favor of legal abortion should favor. If you claim to be “pro-choice,” shouldn’t you be in favor of making it illegal to coerce a woman into abortion?
And yet, 43 members of the Michigan House voted no on this legislation on March 24, 2016, including recently elected Representative David LaGrand.
LaGrand wasn’t always in favor of legal abortion. When LaGrand ran for Michigan State Senate in 2006, he identified as a “pro-life Democrat.” When he ran for State Senate again in 2010, he met Right to Life of Michigan PAC’s endorsement criteria along with his opponent in that race, current State Senator David Hildenbrand. LaGrand was also endorsed by Right to Life of Michigan PAC when he ran for and won a seat on the Grand Rapids City Commission in 2007.
In 2006, David LaGrand did at least two interviews in which he elaborated on being a prolife Democrat. In the October 6, 2006 issue of the Calvin Chimes (the student paper at Calvin College), LaGrand said he was “emphatically pro-life” and that the “pro-choice position” of the Democratic Party “doesn’t limit it.” He also discussed his faith and said, “Most Calvinists and reformers are pro-life, and I am too.” The Christian Reformed Church has a prolife position on abortion which “calls believers to speak out against the atrocity of abortion, to promote action and legislation that reflect the teaching of Scripture regarding the sanctity of human life.”
In an interview posted on April 20, 2006 on the Michigan Liberal blog, LaGrand said, “Now, I am pro-life, and my Christian commitment holds me to that.”
What happened to the 2006-2010 version of David LaGrand? That guy claimed his “family and faith taught (him) the sanctity of human life” and promised to “defend those who can’t defend themselves.”
The 2016 version of David LaGrand is voting against legislation to stop women from being coerced into abortion. Maybe the 2006-2010 version of David LaGrand is still around. Maybe he’ll come back someday.

What does an abortion procedure look like?
The prolife group Live Action released videos last month detailing
how abortion procedures are performed as well as an interview with Dr.
Anthony Levatino, a former abortionist who performed over 1,200
abortions.
These videos are very informational and show video
illustrations of the abortion procedure while Dr. Levatino explains it.
These videos are featured on AbortionProcedures.com
and Dr. Levatino explains a D&E (Dilation and Evacuation) abortion,
aspiration abortion, the abortion pill, and induction abortion. He also
answers questions regarding his work as an abortionist.
Many
women aren't aware of what takes place during an abortion procedure and
view it as an easy solution. However, with 31 million views more and
more people are realizing how violent abortions are and that they aren't
an easy, painless solution. People have commented on the abortion
procedure videos saying that they have made them rethink abortion.
Legislation to ban the D&E abortion procedure shown in one of the videos has been introduced in Michigan.
We
encourage you to view these videos, learn more about the abortion
procedure and share them with your friends and family. Too often the
abortion industry hides behind the truth, but now we have the chance to
expose the truth to others!

March is Women's History Month: how much history have we lost?
National Women's
History Month in March is a designated time to remember the past
contributions of women. How much of that history has been unwritten,
however, due to abortion?
Since
1973, there have been an estimated 56 million abortions in America.
That means 28 million women are missing from our society. How many
scientists, teachers, doctors, mothers, siblings and friends is that?
Abortion
is often discussed as a women's rights issue. Those who value the lives
of unborn children in the womb--regardless of their sex or any other
quality--have been described as being against women, or even conducting a
"War on Women."
Is abortion a tool for helping women? Evidence actually suggests abortion may be the greatest tool of sex discrimination ever.
In
countries like China and India, there is a perfect storm of tragedy.
Abortion is legal in these two countries, there is a strong cultural
preference for male children, and there are legal or economic barriers
that tie abortion and culture together.
There may be more than 160 million missing women in the world, victims of sex-selection abortions.
There is even some evidence that this practice exists in the United States.

Prolife victories as abortion clinics close
Working in the prolife movement can be overwhelming and seem daunting at times. After all, 3,000 babies are being aborted each day. However, there is progress being made every day. The abortion rate is declining, abortion clinics are closing, and abortion providers are quitting.
According to a new report from Bloomberg Business, 162 abortion providers have stopped offering abortions since 2011 while only 21 new clinics have opened. Michigan led this with one of the largest drops in abortion providers. Since 2011 15 out of the state’s 34 surgical abortion clinics have closed.
This week will be the last week that nearby South Bend, Indiana, has an abortion clinic. After numerous violations—including failing to report statutory rape—the abortionist is facing the loss of his medical license.
Why is there this large decrease in abortion providers?
One of the reasons outlined in the report is because of prolife legislation passed. Many states have passed prolife legislation in the past few years. Michigan saw a decline after we updated our state’s health and safety regulations in 2012. These laws hold abortion clinics up to the same standards as other outpatient health facilities.
Abortions have been declining as well. Abortions are down 34 percent since their national high in 1990 and in Michigan they are down 43.7 percent since 1987. Overall, abortions are at the lowest level since 1975 according to the Guttmacher Institute. Comparing 3,000 deaths from abortion today, to 4,400 abortions every day in 1990, that’s progress!
Planned Parenthood has been consolidating clinics and building mega health centers. They are able to do this in part from taxpayer funding. Smaller, independent clinics don’t receive this funding and some aren’t able to compete with Planned Parenthood.
The younger generations have proven to be more prolife than their parents or grandparents. This means that the Roe v. Wade generation is aging and they aren’t able to find young doctors to champion their cause of tearing apart tiny unborn humans.
Sometimes the hard work that we put into the prolife movement seems futile. However, this new report shows that it is not. In the past four years we have seen major changes in the abortion industry and this is due to the diligence, activism, and support of our grassroots prolife volunteers.
Let this encourage you and remember: it’s all about the baby steps.

Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders can’t name a single abortion restriction he favors
Last night during a FOX News Democratic presidential town hall, U.S. Senator and presidential candidate Bernie Sanders was asked by Brett Baier if he could “name a single circumstance, at any point in the pregnancy, in which (he) would be okay with abortion being illegal?”
Senator Bernie Sanders was not able to name a single instance in which he thinks abortion should be illegal. This means Bernie Sanders thinks elective abortion should be legal throughout all nine months of pregnancy.
You can watch the video of his answer below.

Abortion group freaks out over Super Bowl commercial with ultrasound
Groups that favor legal abortion often call themselves “pro-choice” but more and more they’re revealing the only "choice" they favor is abortion. The group NARAL (National Abortion Rights Action League) provided an excellent example of this recently.
During Super Bowl 50, one of the commercials paid for by Doritos featured an unborn child who really wanted the Doritos his or her father was eating during an ultrasound appointment. You can watch the commercial below.
Here’s NARAL’s reaction on Twitter.
They didn't like the ad because it supposedly used the "antichoice tactic" of "humanizing" a late stage human fetus. The main problem with NARAL's position is that it's not a "tactic" to humanize unborn human children. It's merely acknowledging a scientific fact. Unborn human children with human parents are human.
It's also disturbing how NARAL opposed "humanizing" an unborn child which is clearly near birth. Apparently, even an unborn child at the very late stages of pregnancy isn't human to NARAL.
Pro-abortion groups have often struggled with how to deal with the improvements in ultrasound technology which have provided us with a clearer window to the womb. They can't argue against the humanity of the unborn so they pretend it doesn't exist.

Media bias in two pictures
Do you remember this picture?
It was taken by JD Mullane, a news columnist for the Bucks County Courier Times, showing the empty rows reserved for the media during the criminal trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell. When America’s most prolific serial killer was on trial for multiple murders and the jury was hearing horrific details of what occurred in Gosnell’s abortion clinic, the media didn’t bother to show up.
However, the media was highly interested when prolife activist/citizen journalist David Daleiden went to the Harris County courthouse yesterday to merely post bond after being charged with using a fake driver's license to go undercover into Planned Parenthood. Daleiden was offered a plea deal to received only probation which he turned down.
Below is a picture taken by Phil Archer, a KPRC Local 2 Reporter, showing the hallway of the courthouse filled with media. Archer also posted a video which shows media personnel with at least 7-8 large video cameras and numerous others taking photos.
This is a prime example of media bias. When the media thinks a story will show abortion providers in a bad light, the media are nowhere to be found but when they think a story will hurt the prolife movement, they show up in droves.
While Planned Parenthood has been giddy about the charges filed against Daleiden, if Harris County prosecutors go forward with these charges, Planned Parenthood executives will be subpoenaed to testify and the videos of Daleiden's undercover work will become evidence.

Heritage Clinic for Women's abortionist has long arrest record
Last week we learned that the abortionist at Heritage Clinic for Women (an abortion clinic in Grand Rapids) had been arrested at least 3 times in the last 5 years. Charges against Thomas Gordon included domestic violence and being a disorderly person. New research shows that the arrest record for Thomas Gordon goes back further than 5 years.
Search results from ICHAT (Internet Criminal History Access Tool) reveal that Thomas Gordon has an arrest record in Michigan dating back to 1991. Other charges include aggravated assault and drunk driving. After an incident in November of 2011, Gordon was originally charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon. He later plead guilty to misdemeanor domestic violence and misdemeanor of possessing a weapon under the influence. It appears he spent 4 days in jail for this offense.
Despite his arrest record and propensity to violence, Gordon's clinic is still listed on the National Abortion Federation's web site.

Michigan House committee holds hearing on permanently defunding abortion providers
Today, the Michigan House Appropriations Committee held a hearing on H.B. 4145. H.B. 4145 would add a section to the public health code which prevents state departments from distributing money to organizations that perform or refer for elective abortions.
Michigan’s legislative director, Ed Rivet, testified at the hearing and used fetal models to show the size and appearance of unborn children being aborted in Michigan on a daily basis.
Video of the hearing will be placed online at Michigan House of Representatives video archive web site in the near future.
UPDATE: Here's a direct link to the video of the hearing.

Proud to fail NARAL’s test yet again
Congratulate Michigan and its legislators for failing once again. For at least the eighth year in a row, the pro-abortion group NARAL has given the state of Michigan an “F.” The nation as a whole received a “D.”
Annually, NARAL releases its “Who Decides” report which analyzes state legislation and grades each of the 50 states based on how their laws restrict or don’t restrict abortion. States with few or no prolife laws receive high grades while states with a large number prolife laws usually receive failing grades.
Right to Life of Michigan is proud to be given another “F” from NARAL because of our numerous lifesaving laws. These laws (including a ban on tax-funded abortions, regulations on abortion providers, as well as parental and informed consent laws) have helped decrease the number of abortions performed in Michigan by 43.7% since 1987.

State House committee to consider abortion provider state funding ban
In 2015, the Michigan Legislature enacted a budget provision
preventing any state contracts for family planning with an
abortion provider (mainly Planned Parenthood, but not
exclusively) from containing any state funds. This
provision, however, cannot prevent the flow of federal
dollars that pass through the state health department.
Shutting of those funds requires a win in Washington, D.C.,
which Congress did pass earlier this month and President
Obama promptly vetoed.
This Wednesday, January 27, the House Appropriations Committee will take up House Bill 4145, which would make the state funding ban a permanent law, not an annual budget provision. Major abortion funding restrictions in Washington like the Hyde Amendment have always been year-to-year budget provisions. We do not want our state funding prohibition to be year-to-year.

After 43 years, Americans should have the right to decide on life
Friday, January 22, 1973, will mark 43 years since the U.S. Supreme
Court handed down Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton. Since that day,
abortion has ended the lives of more than 56 million children in the
womb.
Following the decisions many expected the prolife movement would eventually disappear and abortion on-demand through all nine months of pregnancy would become the new normal. Instead, the opposite has happened.
Right to Life of Michigan Barbara Listing said, "The prolife movement continues to face many challenges. But for decades, we have boldly stood for the right to life of every person, and our voice continues to grow stronger."
Recently some major milestones have been reached by the prolife movement.
The Centers for Disease Control released their 2012 abortion report, showing the fewest number of national abortions since 1973.
For the first time ever Congress passed legislation to end most taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood. Undercover journalists exposed to the public Planned Parenthood's practice of selling the organs and tissues of unborn children. Planned Parenthood's current annual report confirmed their pattern of receiving more tax funding despite their non-abortion services and clients declining.
In Michigan, Life Uninvited, a groundbreaking new television documentary on the issue of rape and abortion, will debut the weekend of January 23. The documentary builds on a year of television advertisements and short films featuring the stories of four women and how their lives have been personally affected by the issue. The channels and schedule for Life Uninvited can be found at www.RTL.org.
Listing said, "The response to our ads in 2015 was very positive. There's never been anything like Life Uninvited before, so I invite people to tune in and learn how women can overcome even the most difficult situations."
On January 22, tens of thousands of prolife citizens will gather once again for the March for Life in Washington, D.C. The size and scope of the march has continued to expand in recent years, including new regional marches across the country.
The message tomorrow of the growing voice of prolife advocates is that it's time for an end to Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton. It's time for the American people to once again have a say on our most fundamental right, the unalienable right to life. .

Grand Rapids abortionist arrested for being disorderly person, third arrest in less than 5 years
![]() |
Thomas Gordon |
Longtime Grand Rapids-based abortionist Thomas Gordon was arrested on January 13, 2016. Gordon runs Heritage Clinic for Women, the main abortion clinic in Grand Rapids. Gordon has been an abortionist for decades and has performed tens of thousands of abortions.
Information at the Kent County Inmate Lookup includes Gordon’s mugshot along with the charge description of “DISORDERLY PERSON - FIGHTING/JOSTLING.”
Local sidewalk counselors wondered why Gordon wasn’t showing up at the clinic and they eventually discovered he had been arrested and spent time in jail. It appears he was released on January 17.
Further research finds that Gordon was previously arrested at least twice more in recent years. Once in February 22, 2015. Here's his mugshot from that arrest.
He also pled guilty to domestic violence and possessing a firearm under the influence in 2012 from an incident which occurred in November 2011. He received a year probation at the time.

New TV documentary "Life Uninvited" addresses rape and abortion issue
Right to Life of Michigan has created a new 30-minute television
documentary, Life Uninvited, which examines the controversial issue of
rape and abortion. The film presents four women telling their own
stories of how they have been personally impacted by rape, incest or
abortion.
Life Uninvited will debut on major networks throughout the state of Michigan during the weekend of January 23 and 24. The film will play state-wide again on January 31.
Right to Life of Michigan President Barbara Listing said, "Too often the serious issue of rape, incest and abortion only gets brought up by candidates in the middle of election campaigns. This ground-breaking film gives people a chance to approach this issue for themselves."
Each of the four women shares a different personal experience. Three of the women are themselves rape survivors, three were conceived through rape, one has had an abortion and one has a daughter conceived through rape.
Listing said, "Most people have not heard any of these perspectives before. We invite people to tune in with open minds and learn more about these four remarkable women."
The film was produced by Minus Red and lead filmmaker Jim Hanon. Hanon is the creative force behind many Right to Life of Michigan television advertisements. In the past, Jim Hanon has served as a vice president at a worldwide advertising agency and was the director of the 2005 movie End of the Spear.
Life Uninvited was inspired by the compassion project television advertisements that Right to Life of Michigan ran throughout the state in 2015.
The television schedule and channel listings for Life Uninvited can be found at the Right to Life of Michigan website, www.RTL.org/lifeuninvited.

Hillary Clinton wants tax funded abortions and more funding for Planned Parenthood
Last week, presidential candidate Hillary Clinton publicly admitted that she favors overturning the Hyde Amendment and thinks Planned Parenthood should get more tax dollars. The Hyde Amendment has prevented federal tax dollars from being used to pay for abortions for nearly 40 years.
During a speech at a campaign rally in New Hampshire on January 10th, Clinton said, “I believe we need to protect access to safe and legal abortion, not just in principal but in practice. Any right that requires you to take extraordinary measures to access it is no right at all...... Not as long as we have laws on the book like the Hyde Amendment making it harder for low-income women to exercise their full rights.”
Hillary Clinton apparently believes someone using their own money to pay for an abortion is an “extraordinary measure.”
Clinton was also recently endorsed by Planned Parenthood Action Fund and is now advocating for more tax dollars to go to Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood has promised to spend $20 million dollars on the 2016 election.
After receiving Planned Parenthood's endorsement, Clinton told Fusion on January 11 that she thinks America's leading abortion provider, should get more funding.
According to their annual report, Planned Parenthood and their affiliates received $553.7 million in tax dollars in the fiscal year 2014-2015.
While Planned Parenthood’s tax funding (along with abortions performed) has increased dramatically over the last decade, their services and their number of clients has dropped.
Maybe someone in the media should ask Hillary Clinton why Planned Parenthood should get more tax funding when they're providing fewer services to fewer clients.

A right without the opportunity to exercise it isn't a right. Low-income women deserve health care. The Hyde Amendment should be overturned.

What would Hillary Clinton do if elected president to ensure that all women—particularly low-income women and women of color—have equal access to healthcare? Push Congress to boost Planned Parenthood funding, for one thing.
“I am not only against defunding Planned Parenthood, but I would like to see Planned Parenthood even get more funding,” she told Fusion’s Anna Holmes on Monday night, after the Iowa Brown & Black Forum. “Because, often times, it is both the first and the last resort for healthcare.”
Clinton would also push to repeal the Hyde Amendment, she said. Because when public funding for abortion services is banned by federal law, “the people who are going to suffer the most are going to be low-income women of color, that’s just the fact.”
