Michigan Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow had an opportunity to keep our tax dollars from going to organizations who perform or promote abortions in foreign countries, but both chose instead to fund abortion providers in the name of "population assistance."
On January 28, Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL) offered an amendment that would have restored restrictions, known as the Mexico City Policy, on taxpayer funding for groups providing or promoting abortions overseas. Because of the votes of Sen. Levin, Sen. Stabenow and other like-minded U.S. senators the amendment failed.
