CDC reports abortions down 4% in 2012

The Centers for Disease Control recently released their 2012 report on abortion.  The CDC collects and compiles information on reported abortions from states which require abortion reporting.  Some states do not report abortion statistics to the CDC so the CDC statistics aren't complete but they can help provide information on trends in abortion statistics.  The CDC reports that the numbers of abortions, the abortion rate (abortions per 1,000 women aged 15-44) and abortion ratio (abortions per 1,000 live births) are at historic lows.

U.S. abortions continue to fall, according to a new federal report released Wednesday.

Federal statistics show abortions have been in a general decline for about 25 years.

The number of reported abortions dropped 4 percent in 2012, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported. About 699,000 abortions were reported to the federal government that year. That's about 31,000 fewer than the year before.
