Planned Parenthood admits to selling body parts for $60 each, changing abortion techniques

In a letter to Congress, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards admits that one of their California affiliates receives a “reimbursement of $60 per tissue specimen” and that Planned Parenthood abortionists will adjust how they perform abortions to “ facilitate fetal tissue donations.”

Richards says only one Planned Parenthood affiliate is currently being paid for body parts but admits that four other affiliates previously had relationships with companies buying fetal body parts but those relationships have ended since the release of the undercover videos.

Richards says the $60 per “tissue specimen” is a “modest reimbursement” and “these amounts were intended to recover only their costs.”  However, she provides no reasoning or accounting for why $60 per tissue specimen is an accurate reimbursement of Planned Parenthood’s supposed costs considering employees of tissue procurement companies like StemExpress would routinely collect the body parts and ship them.  No explanation or demonstration is given for this reimbursement even as Planned Parenthood admits that it’s guidance to affiliates says the affiliate “must be able to demonstrate the reimbursement represents its actual costs.” If the affiliate must demonstrate the reimbursement reflects actual costs, then where is that demonstration?

The Center for Medical Progress, the group behind the undercover videos has released a statement regarding Planned Parenthood’s letter which says:

Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards makes two key admissions today in Planned Parenthood’s letter to Congress: that Planned Parenthood gets paid $60 per baby body part harvested, and that Planned Parenthood doctors alter their abortion procedures to get higher-quality body parts. Both of these admissions speak to Planned Parenthood’s financial benefit and profit motive for supplying fetal tissue, and both are the points CMP’s videos have documented and illustrated from the very beginning. When a Tissue Procurement Organization handles all dissection, packaging, and shipping of fetal organs, and all Planned Parenthood does is spend 10 minutes consenting a patient, the $60 per body part harvested quickly adds up to illegal baby parts profit for Planned Parenthood. And when a Planned Parenthood doctor manipulates the abortion to get higher-quality baby parts, they are prizing Planned Parenthood’s financial interests ahead of women’s health.

Regarding the changing of abortion procedures to obtain the desired fetal tissue, Richards writes,

In performing the selected method, a physician may need to make multiple adjustments to the method as the surgery proceeds. These adjustments are clinical judgments – not a change of method – made by the physician as the abortion proceeds and are always intended to achieve the woman’s desired result as safely as possible......Our understanding, however, is that even adjustments that facilitate fetal tissue donations rarely occur at our few clinics that offer women this service.

This directly contradicts what Planned Parenthood’s own medical director Deborah Nucatola was caught on tape saying.  In the first undercover video released, Nucatola was very open in describing to actors how she would "huddle" with staffers at the start of the day to discuss what body parts were needed and that she would intentionally "crush above" and below the torso in an effort to obtain intact fetal organs.  This was not done to make the abortion as safe as possible for the woman but done solely to obtain the desired organs.

Planned Parenthood has been caught selling the body parts of children killed at their clinics. They have still not provided any evidence that the money they receive for these parts is only reimbursement for their costs.  Planned Parenthood abortionists have been caught discussing their willingness and intent in changing abortion techniques to obtain intact organs to sell. They have still not provided any evidence that changing the technique is done for the safety of the woman.

8th video on fetal body part harvesting released, discusses intact severed baby heads

The eight video in the series by the Center for Medical Progress exposing Planned Parenthood’s practice of selling the body parts of unborn children was released earlier today.  It features undercover footage of a lunch meeting with Cate Dyer, the CEO of StemExpress.  StemExpress is a company which buys fetal body parts from Planned Parenthood (and other abortion clinics) and then sells them to researchers.

In the video, Cate Dyer discusses sending intact fetal heads to researchers, mentions Planned Parenthood is a “volume institution” with regards to abortion, says StemExpress could use 50 more fetal livers a week because the demand from researchers is so high, and mentions how they’ve seen clinics with “really rampant problems with bacteria” including staph infection.

StemExpress sued the Center for Medical Progress in an attempt to prevent the release of this footage. Last week, a judge removed the temporary order which prevented the Center for Medical Progress from releasing this video.  StemExpress didn’t want the public to see their CEO laughing about how you have to warn a lab that a whole head of an aborted child is coming or else the person opening the box might freak out.  Due to the increased scrutiny of their relationship with Planned Parenthood and fetal tissue harvesting, StemExpress announced on August 14 that they were ending their dealings with Planned Parenthood.

Prolifers across Michigan protest Planned Parenthood, Satan worshipers show up in Detroit to counter protest

On August 22, prolife people from across Michigan joined prolifers across the United States and showed up at 14 Planned Parenthood clinic in Michigan to peacefully protest America’s largest abortion provider and encourage government leaders to stop sending tax dollars to them  The protests were spurred by a series of videos showing how Planned Parenthood is engaged in selling the body parts and organs of aborted children.

Local media covered events in Detroit, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Brighton, Warren, Lansing and Ann Arbor.

The event in Detroit received some national news coverage after Satan worshipers showed up to support Planned Parenthood.

Clad in black robes, members of the Satanic Temple of Detroit drenched bound women with milk, simulating water-boarding to "illustrate the theocratic agenda imposed upon female bodies." The milk symbolized breast milk, one of the protest organizers explained on Facebook.

The Washington Post has compiled via Twitter some photos/videos from the events across the country. Here's some photos taken at protests in Michigan.

7th video exposing Planned Parenthood discusses intact aborted children

The seventh video released by the Center for Medical Progress is called “Human Capital - Episode 3: Planned Parenthood's Custom Abortions for Superior Product” and focusing on late-term abortion cases in which a child is delivered fully intact and the heart may still be beating.

In the video, former StemExpress employee Holly O’Donnell discusses a late-term abortion case in which a child was delivered intact and O’Donnell had to use scissors to cut through the child's face in order to retrieve the child’s brain.

One of Planned Parenthood’s fetal parts buyers severs ties with organization

StemExpress, one of companies which buys body parts of unborn children from Planned Parenthood, announced late Friday afternoon that they are cutting ties with the organization.

“We value our various partnerships but, due to the increased questions that have arisen over the past few weeks, we feel it prudent to terminate activities with Planned Parenthood,” the company said in a statement. “While we value our business relationship with Planned Parenthood, that work represents a small percentage of our overall business activity and we must focus our limited resources on resolving these inquiries.”

The small biomedical tissue procurement company is distancing itself from Planned Parenthood after finding itself tangentially linked to what abortion opponents allege is Planned Parenthood’s illegal trafficking of fetal tissue and organs.

The third and sixth videos released by the Center for Medical Progress include interviews with a former StemExpress employee who discusses the relationship between StemExpress and Planned Parenthood.  Two congressional committees have asked StemExpress to detail their relationship with Planned Parenthood.

StemExpress has also gone to court to prevent the Center for Medical Progress from releasing footage of a lunch meeting between executives at StemExpress and undercover actors from the Center for Medical Progress.

6th Planned Parenthood video discusses how StemExpress employees would take baby parts without woman’s consent

“Human Capital - Episode 2: Inside the Planned Parenthood Supply Site” features interviews with Holly O’Donnell, a former employee of StemExpress.  O’Donnell shares how Planned Parenthood would provide her and her co-workers with patient records and abortion schedule so they could be ready to get the parts of aborted children they needed.  StemExpress technicians would also take fetal organs without obtaining the consent of women if the organ was in demand.

O’Donnell says, “If there was a higher gestation, and the technicians needed it, there were times when they would just take what they wanted. And these mothers don’t know. And there’s no way they would know.”

O’Donnell also discusses how quickly Planned Parenthood abortionist Ron Berman would perform abortions.

Senator Debbie Stabenow doesn’t understand why prolifers want to defund an organization which sells fetal body parts, thinks Planned Parenthood does mammograms

Yesterday, Senator Debbie Stabenow tweeted out the following.

Maybe Senator Stabenow hasn’t been following the news of late. Maybe she is completely unaware of the series of videos exposing Planned Parenthood practice of trafficking in the body parts of unborn children. Maybe she didn’t listen to any of speeches by her colleagues to understand why they don’t think America’s leading abortion provider should continue getting millions in tax dollars. Maybe she was unaware that two of her Democratic colleagues were going to vote to defund Planned Parenthood. Maybe she doesn't understand why some people think selling the body parts of unborn children is wrong. Maybe she was unaware the money Planned Parenthood gets would be given to community health centers. Maybe she and her staff haven’t done a minute of research and instead rely solely on Planned Parenthood’s talking points.

Because if they did do the slightest bit of research they would know that Planned Parenthood does not provide mammograms. They don’t even have the equipment to provide mammograms.   There are more than 8,000 licensed mammogram facilities in the U.S. and Planned Parenthood doesn’t run one of them.

Fifth video released, Planned Parenthood staffer discusses intact fetuses

This morning, the Center for Medical Progress released the fifth video in undercover investigation exposing Planned Parenthood's practice of trafficking in fetal body parts.  This video features footage from inside Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast abortion clinic and a discussion with Melissa Farrell, Director of Research, at Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast in her office and during a lunch meeting.

In the discussion, Farrell discusses obtaining "intact fetal cadavers," a desire to increase and diverse Planned Parenthood's "revenue stream," and her affiliate's willingness to alter abortion techniques in order to obtain better parts.

The video also features footage inside the room where Planned Parenthood processes the parts of unborn children and includes footage showing the remains of an unborn child killed at 18 weeks.

Courts tell Center for Medical Progress to not release certain footage, videos featuring Planned Parenthood still being released

In the wake of the Center for Medical Progress videos featuring Planned Parenthood’s practice of trafficking in fetal body parts, other organizations who were caught in the undercover videos have sued to keep that footage from being released.  They clearly want to hide this footage from the public.

StemExpress is a company which buys fetal parts from Planned Parenthood in California.  According to an interview with CNN, the Center for Medical Progress’ David Daleiden was able to have a lunch meeting with executives from StemExpress and during that meeting the StemExpress executives discussed obtaining intact aborted children.

StemExpress filed suit in to prevent the Center for Medical Progress from releasing that footage.  The Los Angeles Superior Court issued a restraining order that prevents them from releasing the footage from that meeting until the scheduled August 19 hearing.

The Center for Medical Progress was also able to attend conferences of National Abortion Federation (NAF), an association of abortion providers, and have discussion with executives from the organization.  In order to prevent that footage from being released, NAF filed suit in San Francisco and recently obtained a temporary restraining order which prevents the Center for Medical Progress from releasing footage which was shot at their conferences until a hearing on August 27.

The judge in that case, Judge William Orrick, is a big donor to President Obama and his wife is an abortion advocate.

This lawsuits do not prevent the Center for Medical Progress from releasing videos shot inside Planned Parenthood abortion clinics.

Majority of U.S. Senate votes to defund Planned Parenthood, bill is blocked by filibuster

Yesterday, the U.S. Senate voted 53-46 to defund Planned Parenthood and direct tax dollars which are currently funding America’s leading abortion provider to instead go to community health centers.  In the U.S. Senate, 60 votes are needed to overcome a filibuster.

Both of Michigan's U.S. Senators, Senator Debbie Stabenow and Senator Gary Peters, voted against the bill.

The vote, which failed 53-46, would have redirected the more than $500 million in taxpayer funding Planned Parenthood receives annually to community health centers as a way to allow women to continue to receive care. The vote comes in the wake of four videos released by anti-abortion activists depicting Planned Parenthood employees apparently discussing the sale of body parts of aborted fetuses, which is illegal......

Monday’s vote represented the first official attempt to move forward on the issue. Sens. Joni Ernst and Rand Paul led the crafting of the legislation, which only two Democrats, West Virginia’s Joe Manchin and Joe Donnelly of Indiana, joined the vast majority of Republicans in voting for. Only Republican Sen. Mark Kirk voted against the bill, though McConnell switched his vote to “no” as a way to ensure he can bring the measure up again in the future.
